Lanna was founded by my husband, Paul, in 1993. Paul devoted his time and energy into developing a school for our children and the community. Unfortunately, soon after the doors opened, the tragic and untimely death of my loving and caring husband left much unfinished work. It was up to my children and I to see that his dreams and livelihood lived on by making the school into what we knew it could be.
LIST is a special place for my family and I. It has flourished into something more than I ever expected. I’ve been able to draw together educators and staff that share my vision of making LIST into a place where children can receive a great education without it costing a fortune. Every day holds a new challenge, but as long as I continue to make LIST a place where children enjoy coming to further their education then I believe I’ve successfully carried on Paul’s dream. “I thank the community of students, parents and teachers that help make this a special place that I continue to believe in and work long hours to make as good as it can be.”

Since 2012, I have been working in education in Chiang Mai, teaching at both the primary and secondary levels. During this time, I’ve taken on a variety of roles, including being a primary school homeroom teacher and teaching middle school social studies and geography. I’ve also held leadership positions, such as head of an international primary school and teacher representative on the school’s governing board. Additionally, I've coordinated house activities.
These experiences have given me a well-rounded understanding of international education and have greatly contributed to my growth as an educator. My time at LANNA has been the most fulfilling part of my career so far, thanks to the collaboration with talented colleagues and the enthusiasm of our students.
As the current Head of Middle School, my main focus is guiding students through the crucial transition from primary to secondary education. I'm also dedicated to supporting their overall development as they prepare for the challenges of the IGCSE curriculum. I also believe that school should be a place where students genuinely enjoy coming every day. That’s why I strive to ensure that LANNA is more than just a place of learning—it’s a caring community where students feel valued, safe, and encouraged to explore their interests. - Mr AlexHead of High School (Y11 to 13)Mr AlexHead of High School (Y11 to 13)BA (HONS) English - Manchester University, PGCE Secondary English - Edge Hill University, MA Education - Edge Hill University.

After finishing my marketing degree in the US, I came to Thailand in 2008 as a volunteer and taught for a local NGO for two years. It was such a rewarding experience that I decided to pursue education as a career here in Thailand. While working at the Chiang Mai University Language Institute over the following 7 years as an English and Business teacher, I furthered my education and became a licensed Secondary Maths and ESOL teacher in the US. At LANNA, I teach A Level Business and IGCSE Enterprise. Aside from teaching, I also currently serve as Head of Humanities, LQ Coordinator (school magazine), and boys basketball coach. Before arriving in Thailand, I studied in Costa Rica for a short time, teaching both ESL and English literature. It is there that I learned the true sense of community and respect for the planet. I returned to the USA where I had the opportunity to teach in a low-income school district where I taught English language and literature to high-risk students for three years. It is there that I learned the true sense of patience and genuine empathy for others. I made the decision to move and teach abroad on an impulsive whim. Although I had never visited Asia before moving here, I have found the transition to Chiang Mai has been a beautiful and exciting journey thus far. After I finished High School I worked as a Bank Representative for several years, but it was not challenging and inspiring enough for me to continue in the long-term. I have always loved mathematics (which might be strange to some people!) and its applications. I therefore decided to change direction and studied structural engineering. After graduation I worked as a Structural Engineer in Germany and in Switzerland for several years.
Afterwards I gave myself a break and travelled around Asia including Thailand. I worked for the Chiang Mai University and afterwards, in 2005, started to teach mathematics at LIST (IGCSE, A-level, AP math). I enjoy my work here very much, and I love to be amongst young people, helping them to see the beauty of mathematics and all of its applications. In my leisure time I used to work as a divemaster; I still go diving, but it’s a little difficult here in the North of Thailand, I therefore now cycle up and down the mountains and enjoy the beautiful countryside instead.

I have been a music educator since 2004, and a musician for many years before that. Music has always been a major component of my life, and making a career in music education has been a logical progression for me from that passion. I'm a graduate of the University of Connecticut where I received my Bachelors in Instrumental Performance (2005) and a Graduate Performance Certificate (2009), as well as a graduate of Endicott College where I received my Masters in International Education (2019).
Prior to joining the team here at LANNA in 2024, I taught music for 10 years in a junior boarding school in Connecticut, 5 years as a classroom music teacher in Chiangmai, and most recently 4 years as a classroom music teacher at St. Johnsbury Academy Jeju in Korea. Beyond the classroom I have also worked with numerous Marching Bands and Drum Corps across Connecticut, managed private music lesson programs, performed as a woodwind doubler in numerous musical theatre productions, and taught private lessons on saxophone, flute, and clarinet.
The music classroom is a special and exciting place for students of all ages and abilities. I genuinely enjoy challenging my students to explore new facets of music, understand the harmonic structure of the pieces that excite them, and constantly expand their own musical horizons. Through music, our students are able to express themselves in ways words might fail, and open up new opportunities for our students as they leave school and move into adulthood. I am very grateful to be a part of the LANNA community and return to my second home, Chiangmai, to share this passion for music and music education.

I have always been a traveler. From a young age, I have often traveled between Hong Kong and Canada. After getting my PGCE, I worked in Ukraine, Beijing, and Hong Kong. I am thrilled to join Lanna for the next chapter of my life.
After living in a couple of places, I encountered many failures and made many mistakes in my life. But I also have success stories and tons of good memories along the way. I believe it is essential to help young learners build a growth mindset, appreciate those failures as a part of learning, and celebrate those "A-ha" moments together.
Aside from teaching, I also enjoy several hobbies that help me relax and appreciate the small things in life. I am particularly interested in cooking, hiking, listening to podcasts, and traveling. I can't wait to explore the Thai culture in Chiang Mai and look forward to being a part of the Lanna community.

My name is Ms. Grace, and I graduated from Our Lady of Fatima University in Manila, Philippines, with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. I am also a registered nurse. Driven by a passion for early childhood education, I pursued a Postgraduate Certificate in International Early Years Education in Bristol, England, and I have been teaching at LANNA as an early years educator for over 8 years. I am happy to be working here with staff who love creating a nurturing environment for the learners.
I believe that development in young learners flourishes when they have opportunities to play, as this allows them to practise new skills and face challenges just beyond their current level of mastery. During play, children demonstrate various modes of learning and different ways of representing what they know. It’s crucial to allow children to use these 'representations' to express themselves in their learning. This is where I come in as an educator. My teaching philosophy revolves around recognising the modes of learning of my young learners, understanding how they learn individually, and comprehending the meaning of their representations. I then create a safe and nurturing learning environment to support the modes of learning they have demonstrated.
Whenever possible, I love travelling, not only to experience the diverse cuisines different countries offer but also to learn about their cultures, deepening my understanding of the world's great diversity. Outside of school, I enjoy spending time with friends who share similar interests.
